I know it’s cliche, but I’ve started saying it ironically. Every year it’s the same old routine. Every one tries to shake off the previous year and embrace the new one, vowing to make changes. We discuss how terrible the year has been and hope the new one will be better. Maybe your New Years resolution is to lose weight, or to be healthier, or to unfriend toxic people. We all make resolutions, but rarely do we stick with them. Rarely does the year turn out much differently.
One of my plans was to seize the day, to get out there and enjoy this world, and also to stop spending so much time looking at memes. Although, it was memes that inspired me. At first they were funny. Then I decided to take them seriously. I would say “New year new me!” in my mocking voice, but then it stuck with me. I’ve actually started trying to implicate changes in my life. One of them was to be more spontaneous, and less afraid. So far, I’ve played truth or dare with a stranger at a bar, which ended with absurdities such as pretending to be a chicken, and dragging my butt across the floor the way dogs do. What’s life without a little embarrassment?
Next, I’ve decided to not care so much what other people think. So what if I fell off my stool? So what if I got into a slapping match with my friend in public (that was a wild night…)? Those are the things worth remembering; the stupid, ridiculous, and immature things you do with friends. I hope this year will be full of those things. I know it will be.
Please help hold me accountable. If I don’t make cool blog posts, that means I’m not doing cool things, which means I fail. I’m a winner, not a loser. At least, I try. Let’s make 2018 the year of Trying. Actually no, it should be the year of Succeeding. May we all succeed this year!
